Jag skickade frågan till Red Sea, och nu har jag fått svar.
Mitt mail:
”I have noticed that there is a difference in the instructions for how to mix salt water between Red Sea salt and Red Sea Coral Pro salt. For Red Sea Coral Pro it says that it should be mixed between 0.5 and 2 hours, and not more than 4 hours.
I started to think about this difference and I would appreciate if you could answer a few questions about this:
Red Sea Coral Pro Salt:
1. What is it that happens/can happen with the prepared salt water if I mix it longer than 4 hours?
2. Can I, for example in a bucket with a lid, store prepared salt water for later use?
If not, what can happen?
3. If I store prepared salt water for later use, should I have some sort of circulation in the bucket or is it best to store it without circulation?
Red Sea salt:
Does the same answers apply to the questions if I use Red Sea salt, or is there a difference?”
Och svaret från Red Sea:
”When mixing RedSea salt or Coral Pro salt it is suggested to use once it clears. The reason for that is, the elements that are in the salt can precipitate out the longer it is stored. If it is stored there is a chance that you will not get the expected levels of Calcium, Magnesium and Alkalinity that you would expect to see if it were a fresh batch. You also might start seeing a film in the storage container. That is going to be from the elements precipitating out. It is not anything harmful and the mix is still safe to use.
If you are planning on making a batch that is going to be stored, we suggest turning everything off including pumps and heater. If they are left on it can make the elements precipitate out faster. You would also want to make sure that the container is covered.”
